You voted for a new mural for Detroit's Crowell Community Center, and the winner is...

Model D readers selected Brad Fitzgerald's "Fun in the City" design as their favorite to adorn the Crowell Rec Center

Two weeks ago, Model D asked you to help Summer in the City and the Detroit Recreation Department choose a mural design to spruce up the currently plain exterior of the Crowell Community Center in northwest Detroit. Readers voted on seven mural concepts created by artists from the Mars Agency, a global marketing firm with offices in Southfield.

The results are in: with 1,900 total votes cast, Model D readers selected Brad Fitzgerald's "Fun in the City" design as their favorite to adorn the south and east walls of the Crowell Community Center.

Crowell staff members like Fitzgerald's design, too. "It really reflects what we do here," says Archie Woods, recreation center supervisor at Crowell. Woods says that the rec center patrons he polled were also keen on Fitzgerald's design, thought they had good things to say about all of the mural concepts.

So are you feeling pretty good about yourself for voting? Not so fast -- you can do more! Summer in the City and the Crowell Community Center still need your help. Lucky for you there are still two chances to chip in. The first is on Wednesday, August 12, during Paint and Pints, in which volunteers will meet at Crowell Community Center to start work on the mural, then head to a local bar to celebrate a job well done. Can't make it to Paint and Pints? No problem! Just show up at Crowell on August 14, or Finale Friday, a day of service and fun that is a capstone to Summer in the City's season of programming. Volunteers and community members will meet at Crowell to paint the mural, play some games, eat food, and enjoy each other's company.
