Truscott Rossman, a public relations agency, is turning its satellite office in downtown Detroit into a permanent office with a full-time staff.
The Lansing-based business opened an office downtown three years ago. That office served as a space for meetings with the firm's Detroit-based clients but had no permanent staff assigned to it. It also rotated through office space in Harmonie Park and the Penobscot Building.
The new office is staffed by one full-time employee who oversees the 1,800-square-foot space in the Renaissance Center. The new space includes work stations for permanent staff and employees coming through to service Detroit-based clients, along with conference rooms and meeting spaces.
"We generate enough business in the city that we need a permanent space here," says John Truscott, president of
Truscott Rossman. "It's also a signal of how serious we are about the city."
Truscott adds that his firm expects to add another permanent employee there "sooner rather than later" as its business in Detroit continues to grow.
Truscott Rossman took its current form when two public relations agencies with 30 years of experience between them merged three years ago. The new company now has a staff of 14 employees and five interns. It has hired one person over the last year. Its headquarters is in Lansing and it has offices in Grand Rapids and Detroit.
Truscott Rossman bills itself as a "bipartisan strategic communications firm" that has a wide variety of clients, ranging from political causes to brand-name businesses. It also publishes the "
Michigan Legislators' Guide to Lobbyists and Reporters."
